Mr Jonathan Lochhead FRCOphth is a consultant ophthalmologist based on the Isle of Wight, with over 20 years’ experience as a substantive NHS consultant. He specialises in cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery, including vitrectomy, providing consultant-led care for patients requiring both routine and complex eye surgery.
Mr Lochhead qualified in medicine from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 1992. He completed his higher surgical training in ophthalmology in Oxford before being appointed as a consultant ophthalmologist at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust in 2004.
His clinical practice includes standard and advanced cataract surgery, management of complex cataracts, and retinal surgery. He has extensive experience in vitrectomy and the surgical management of retinal conditions, and regularly undertakes surgery for patients with co-existing ocular pathology requiring a higher level of surgical expertise.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Lochhead has a strong academic and research background. He has authored over 40 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international medical journals, contributing to the evidence base underpinning modern ophthalmic surgical practice. He remains actively engaged with developments in eye surgery and clinical research.
